Department of Public Works
The City of Memphis’ Department of Public Works consists of two major divisions, the Department of Public Works and the Water Department. In total the two departments have 3 full time employees and add part-time helpers and contractors as needed. The Department of Public Works maintains streets within the city, along with sanitary sewer lines, storm sewers, and four sewer pump lift stations. The Water Department maintains water mains, which includes reading meters, repairing meters and water breaks and doing valve turning and hydrant flushing to clean the system.
The Water Supply System and Water Treatment Lagoons are operated by the DPW director, Bart Dunsmore, who holds S-3, D3, and L-1 licenses for this purpose. He is also our supervisor over the other two full-time employees. Our goal is to supply quality water to our customers at a reasonable cost.
The goals of our two departments are to get the work given to us completed as soon as possible, and maintain the city in a clean and safe way for our residents. Either one of these departments can be reached at (810)392-2220.
