Fonts are handled differently with Microsoft Word and Google Docs. Microsoft developed before the Internet developed and its fonts are intended to render on a PC screen or a printed page. Google evolved with the Internet and its fonts are intended to render on web pages. This is why Microsoft fonts and Google Docs are generally incompatible. It has been a challenge to find a resume name font that will go from Google Doc to Microsoft Word to PDF and back to Google again. The criteria I use for a resume name font is Serif and Small Caps. Make sure all 3 versions of your resume have your name in a small caps serif font. Microsoft has a feature that allows any font to be turned into a small caps font.
Convert between platforms, understand the strengths and weakness of each, make corrections
Apply the correct usage of tabs for alignment
Use SMALL CAPS and expansion for your name.
Use images for bullets and align with logo.
Store and maintain immediate availability of resume in all formats: Microsoft Word, and PDF.
The criteria for the Word Resume is as follows:
Perfect the Google Resume as much as possible and download as Microsoft Word.
Fix tabs, use a Center Tab for name if you have not already done so.
Use Font expansion on name
Use a bottom border under name
Create a tasteful, professional logo. Resize to about an inch by an inch, left align
Match your bullets to logo, resize as necessary
Save in Downloads Folder and upload it to CIS105 shared Folder
Save it as a PDF and insert the PDF on portfolio page above the Google Resume
