After very successful editions in 2014-2020 the Mayor's Cup returns in 2021, but in online format!
The Santa Fe Mayor's Cup is a city-wide competition for any student up to and including the last year of high school. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will hold it in an online format on Wednesday December 29 at 6:00pm. To sign up just send email to mark@galassi.org
(pass this around to families with kids who play chess!)
Dear Santa Fe chess families,
Among the many sad things about covid, one of them has been that we
could not have our protracted Mayor's Cup round robin tournament.
But I have come up with a formula for having it, and that is to host a
single online swiss system tournament.
We will have it on Wednesday, at 6:00pm, in our online chess system at
https://lichess.org/ and it will be available to any K-12 student who
lives in Santa Fe, or goes to school here.
You should write me to sign up, letting me know your name and lichess
handle. I will then send you the password to get in.
I expect the entire tournament to last between 1.3 hours and 2.5 hours
(that upper limit is quite unlikely), depending on how long the games
last. The "feel" of the swiss tournament will be quite different from
teh arena tournaments we have seen most of the time during lockdown.
The link for the tourament is:

but remember that you have to write to let me know you are going to be
in. That way I can also let you know if we add a second section or if
the link changes.
