First announced around last Thanksgiving, Betaforce is the first new TV Channel Original Series to premiere since last spring's premiere of Across the Barrier. Almost five long months after its big reveal, Betaforce is finally here! Tonight at 9 PM EDT on The TV Channel, the 90-minute pilot episode will make its world premiere! Starring the talents of Xavier Mochelly (Dr. Patrick Farley), Cody Barnes (Connor Farley), Gavin MacHenry (Donovan "Don" Saunders), and Alistair Williams (Gen. Francis Saunders), Betaforce: Defenders of Earth is an epic sci-fi adventure with a fantastic trio of protagonists! Here is what is in store for viewers:
Dr. Patrick Farley, renowned astrogeologist, is called into a military research and testing facility by General Francis Saunders as an expert on space rocks. Unfortunately, it is spring vacation and, as a widower, Farley is forced to drag along his curious, excitable, thirteen-year-old son Connor on his visit. Coincidentally, Gen. Saunders is in the same situation, and his "tough-guy," apathetic, fourteen-year-old son Donovan (or "Don") is loitering around the facility. Recently, a mysterious, unidentifiable, rock-like space object fell from the sky and was seized by the military. The general has called in Dr. Farley to help identify it. While his father gets to work, Connor begins clashing with Don over small things in a bully-victim sort of way. However, Dr. Farley soon discovers that not even a diamond, the hardest substance on Earth, can scratch the mysterious rock, leading him to believe that it is of a type of rock that is not found on Earth or any of the surrounding planets. The four of them then go to a lab so that Farley can fire a high-powered laser beam at the rock. After a minute or two of exposure to the laser, the rock splits open, revealing a glowing emerald-like gem at its core. More accurately, however, it is a gem whose glow is fluctuating at an accelerating rate. Then, it explodes.
Gen. Saunders, who had not moved away from the gem quickly enough, is rushed to the hospital with a head injury, while Farley tries to discern whether it was a deliberate attack that was meant for Saunders. Eventually, however, it becomes clear that this was a warning attack...meant for the entire planet. Not more than a day later, a cruise ship-sized spacecraft comes into orbit around Earth, and from the ship, alien drones drop and begin flying through the sky with their weapons pointed at the planet's surface. One lands at the military facility and agrees to meet with Dr. Farley. Farley learns that these aliens, whom he has coined Species One, wish to wipe out a large portion of the human race so as to prevent the humans from becoming worthy competitors.
Now, Farley, along with his son and Saunders' son, must find a way to defeat the Species One invaders before billions of innocent lives are lost. One small problem: the boys don't get along.
Betaforce: Defenders of Earth premieres tonight at 9/8c, only on The TV Channel. Rated TV-14. Betaforce premieres with its standard, 60-minute episodes next Friday, April 27 at 9/8c. The first season of Betaforce contains twelve episodes, including Defenders of Earth.
