About the Program

2023-2024 Physical Education Headquarters!

The Comprehensive Grammar School is a K- 8 school where quality physical education and health is taught. The school is divided into two parts the "Lower School" ( K-4) and the "Upper School" ( 5-8). The activities and units are age appropriate, and developmentally appropriate for each grade level. At the CGS we are fortunate enough to have two gyms ( the small gym, and a regulation sized gym). The PE staff uses both gyms throughout the day.  This allows our students to participate and receive maximum physical activity during their physical education blocks!  We are also fortunate enough to have a 5-8 health classroom for students to explore a wide variety of topics.  Below is a brief overview of the differences between the programs at the Lower School level and Upper School level. For more information check out the other links on the website!

The Lower School P.E. taught by: Ms. Hollenbeck and Ms Beauregard - Students in the lower school receive Physical Education two times a week throughout the year. The students are exploring a Physical Education program that is based off of the skill- theme model. Students will be exposed to different skills such as throwing and catching, kicking, and dribbling, and will hopefully develop their motor skills to be able to perform different games and activities within the different skills presented throughout their journey in the lower school. Students will also be exposed to cooperative activities, rhythms and dance, and fitness units throughout the school year. Technology, latest instructional practices and teaching models will be used to provide our students a quality PE program.

The Upper School P.E. taught by Mr. Deveau and Mrs. Talbot -  Students in the Upper School receive Physical Education twice in a 6 day cycle (band and chorus students may only have PE once in a 6 day cycle) for the year. Students will explore various Team Sports, Fitness Activities, and Project Adventure based activities and units throughout the year. Students will learn through various teaching models including the Skill Based Approach, Teaching Games for Understanding, Sport Education, Tactical Games and more. Students will have the opportunity to learn appropriate skills and apply them in game play throughout the year. There will be google classroom links for each grade level. All the lessons and assessments will be there for the students.
