 ¨A cell is a basic unit of life.

¨Each living cell consists of living material called protoplasm that is made up of the cell surface membrane, cytoplasm and nucleus.

¨Why are cells so small?

To maintain a large surface area to volume ratio for nutrients and oxygen to enter the cell and waste products eg carbon dioxide to leave the cell.
