Bacteria is made up of cells that lack a nuclear membrane and membrane-bound organelles. Unlike most eukaryotes, bacteria lacks complex organisation of cells to form tissues and organs. It is therefore widely believed that bacteria represent species that are the ancestral forms of eukaryotes.

Gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The bacterium causes inflammation and sepsis ('blood poisoning'). Source: Wikipedia
1. they can be sources of virulence, ie they may cause diseases and infections.
2. sources of genetic transformation, eg Transformed E.coli can be used to produce insulin for diabetic patients.
3. food, eg Streptobacillus casei is used for curdling of milk to make yoghurt.
Naming the genus of the bacteria
General Tips:
Classification is according to
1. Arrangement - two ('diplo-'), a chain ('strepto-'), a grape-like cluster ('staphylo-').
2. Shape of bacterial cells - round cells ('-coccus'), rod cells ('bacillus').
