The common name of the Division Pterophytes is the 'Common Fern'. They possess the vascular bundles, namely the phloem that transports manufactured food and xylem which transports water and dissolved mineral salts, making them vascular plants. They have stems, roots and leaves.
Left: A newly formed frond is being unrolled.
Bottom: Life Cycle of a typical fern. Underside of fern frond releases spores that germinate to form gametophyte. The gametophyte produces and releases sex gametes that fuse to form a zygote. The zygote eventually develops to form a sporophyte and the cycle repeats itself.
