Tuesday 24th 2026. ‘We Are Australian’, we were reminded by the beautiful voices of the Ukelele group who entertained us at The Orchard for our Australiana outing to one of the oldest tropical fruit farms in the district - on this glorious autumn morning. We enjoyed a delicious morning tea, before
Trevor, our very own bush poet took us on a ‘True Blue’ journey, after which we headed down the valley for an Orchard tour.
We learned, we sampled, we stroked the horses - used for children’s therapy - and we left so happy to have experienced this beautiful property set on a hillside overlooking distant volcanic plugs.
Thurs Feb 19
Rockhampton Botanical Gardens & Zoo
Thursday 19th February turned out to be one of 'those' days. We travelled by bus to the Rockhampton Botanical Gardens, on arrival making our way to the 9.45 am ‘high tea’ before planning to attend the 10.30 am eagle talk by the Bird Keeper.
We enjoyed a morning tea at the tables under the 150 year old trees. Unfortunately, this event ran a bit over time and we missed the talk by the Bird Keeper, but made it to see the Otter’s being fed.
To add to the excitement, on reboarding the bus for our return with its very high steps, one of our party jarred her elbow, and another slipped and took a cut to her shin leaving a trail of blood through the bus.
It was a day to remember and we kept our sense of humour and look forward go another Anything Goes next month.
We last met on 23 February to enjoy a 1992 movie, Brassed Off.
Our top books for 2025 were:
1. Where the Crawdads Sing - Delia Owens
2. The Islands - Emily Brugman
3. The Promise Seed - Cass Moriarty
How are your cryptic crossword skills? Try these two.
Clue: Bird seen in the museum.
_ _ _ (3)
Clue: Angry report on Dirty Duck?
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (8)
Solutions:
The first solution is 'emu.' It is a kind of 'bird' and you will find it 'in' the letters making up the words 'the museum.'
The second solution is 'wildfowl.' 'Wild' is a synonym for 'angry' and a 'duck' is a kind of 'fowl' ... thus 'wildfowl.'

A fundraiser / morning tea was held on Jan 22nd, 2026 at Keppel Bay Sailing Club. $750 was raised and will be converted to IGA vouchers for victims of the Clermont floods. There were also many generous donations of essential clothing and hygiene items.
A big thank you to Shane who delivered boxes of donated goods on our behalf.
The event organisers would like to thank the Yeppoon Community for their support.
Each month we tackle a different challenge. In December the instruction was simply, 'character.'
Unsurprisingly, we all interpreted the brief in our own way and also unsurprisingly, the results made for some engaging reading.
"Third Age" refers to the period of active retirement, which follows the first age of childhood and formal education and the second age of working life, and which precedes the fourth age of dependence.
The term “University” is used in the original sense of the word - of an association or community of teachers and scholars, united in the pursuit of knowledge.
