Read about writing your (auto) biography and use the guiding questions there to prepare your biography. While you may incorporate the information included in your Bush School biography, your ePortfolio biography should be "richer" in development. Rely on your understanding of the audience/context your ePortfolio is targeting to help you develop your essay, discerning which details and narratives to include. This is your opportunity to show the more personal, interesting aspects of your life that may not be evident in some of your other reflections or more formal biographies. You will have the opportunity to give/receive peer review on your biography, which will help you polish the essay so that it represents your best work. Your analysis and critique of your own writing should be based on writing goals listed below.
Review your "letter to a younger you" to identify what you most value and the "stories" that support them. Those values could be used as themes for your biography.
Possible themes may include "goal setting." Describe how you set a goal and met it. Are you a creative thinker? Describe how you solved a problem that required you to think outside the box. Do you love to read? Which books are your favorite? Why?
What do Myers-Briggs and Strengths tests say about you?
What impression do you want to make on your reader? Select details that advance your themes. Delete everything else.
See resources in Week 6 for more information.
The student will know how to ....
Create a distinguishable structure: an Introduction, Body, and Conclusion for the essay.
Present a BLUF that includes the themes or "takeaways" that are more fully developed in the body.
Develop the essay around clear themes or "takeaways," supported by relevant and compelling evidence and a clear title. (New)
Use a style that fits the audience and context, including paragraphs that flow (i.e., use clear topic sentences, transitions, and cohesive devices that facilitate coherence). (New)
Apply a design that facilitates reading and reinforces the themes, including page design (typography, white space, and accessing aids). (New)
Please submit a well-constructed (auto)biography to turnitin.com by the deadline. Your document should reflect the peer review feedback you received in class. You will receive feedback and a grade from the instructor through turnitin.com. You will have a chance to revise and resubmit your document during the semester (optional) or later before the Medal deadline. The final version of your (auto)biography should be presented in your ePortfolio.
