DAIRY GOATS
The goat project is for youth who wish to raise a market goat, a dairy goat, an Angora goats or a Netherland Dwarf. Our animals are housed in the goat/lamb barn at the Crystal Springs Farm. They have an exercise yard to run and play during the day.
Youth who want to raise at the farm must complete a stall request form.
The youth learn to care for large animals and are responsible for feeding their animals twice a day. The morning feed is often shared among the project membership. The youth also shear their own animals in addition, exercise them daily, trim hooves and provide general care.
MARKET GOATS: This project is shared with Pacifica 4-H, so some meetings will be at our CSF Farm in Burlingame, and some will be in Pacifica. The project leader at our farm (Raymond) will be your project leader.
The youth raise goats from the time they are about 3-4 months old. Youths spend approximately 60-120 days with their goats before bringing them to the San Mateo County Fair. Our goats range in weight from 66 lbs to 95 lbs.
