General Information
The Burlingame/San Mateo 4-H Club is one of thirteen 4-H clubs in San Mateo County, located in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. We are a friendly group of about 35 youth and adult members. Our activities include a variety of animal and non-animal club projects, exhibiting at the San Mateo County Fair, fun group events, and community service.
General Club Meetings
Club meetings are held the first Thursday of every month, at the Crystal Springs Farm in San Mateo at 7:00pm.
Our project meetings are usally held on weekends, and you can see all our projects listed on our interest form.
Meetings are run by the youth club officers. Local and county events, activities, budget, and 4-H news are discussed. Members have opportunities to present questions, announcements and suggestions, give demonstrations, take on leadership positions, and share their 4-H project experiences with others.!
Enrollment can happen at any time of the year, but it is open now for those of you that are ready! https://ucanr.edu/sites/smsf4h/Join/Youth/
The annual 4-H Youth enrollment fee for 2025-2026 participation is $100/youth.
*Need based Fee Waivers/Reductions are available within the online fee survey.
There is occasionally a nominal fee required for participation in a project, and members will need to pay for project expenses, which vary according to each project.
Youth may request to raise animals as a part of one of our projects. Steer, hogs, goats, and lambs may be raised in one of our large animal barns and chickens and turkeys may be raised at our poultry barn and yard. We also have an active Rabbit project, but rabbits are rasied at home and not on the Farm.
Farm Clean-Up and Compost
All of our youth raising animals at the farm are required to participate in 6 hours of Farm Clean Up Days during the year. There are 4-6 Farm Clean-ups scheduled, so you may choose the hours that work for you to complete the mandatory hours. Adults are encouraged to help as well. Youth who raise animals at the farm are required to regularly remove the waste generated by the animal and can learn about more with our Compost Project. We partner with the Belmont 4-H club for Composting and youth raising an animal at the farm should attend the composting meetings since we do this on site at our farm!
Members are encouraged to record their 4-H experiences and achievements with the 4-H Achievement Program (iSprout, Spark, and Stars), and/or with the 4-H Record Book which may be submitted to the 4-H County Office for judging every June. Participation and achievement in 4-H at the Club, County, State, and/or National level(s) can be recognized in the form of awards and scholarships!
Uniforms are not required for club membership or participation in 4-H projects. However, uniforms may be required or advised when members are representing 4-H in competitions (i.e. at the County Fair).
The 4-H uniform consists of:
