I wanted to have another look at how the climate is evolving as we are going through our first heat wave of the year here in Spain.
I have reloaded the maximum temperature data from https://www.ecad.eu/dailydata/ which now contains data until April 2026.
Below is a picture of the Workflow that loads the maximum temperature data:
I then created a simple workflow to see where the highest temperatures were recorded so far (picture below). 98 out of the 100 top values were recorded in Spain.
Below the Workflow a picture of a bar chart of the top 10 values. Note that all top 10 values are above 31 degrees Centigrade and this is only April. Looks we are in for a warm summer...
I then made another simple workflow which compares the daily values of Santander Airport of April 2026 with April 2000. Note the significant increase.
The highest value in April 2000 was 24 Degrees, the highest value in April 2026 32,8 Degrees. A bit scary....
I tweaked this last workflow a bit to compare April 2026 data with August 2000 data ('normally' the warmest month in Spain). Output is below.
Note that several days it was warmer in April 2026 than in August 2000 and the top values of April 2026 are above the warmest days of August in 2000.
