Over a hundred Scouts from across Blyth, Cramlington and Seaton Valley came together on Saturday 4 July for a Big Birthday Bash. They marked the occasion at Selby Wood Scout Campsite in Pigdon, near Morpeth enjoying outdoor adventure, making new friends and developing Skills for Life.
The young people aged six to ten celebrated two important birthdays in Scouting; 40 years since the creation of Beaver Scouts and 110 years of Cub Scouts. Since launching in 1916, Cub Scouts have been helping 8 to 10-year-olds discover the thrill of the outdoors, the joy of teamwork, and the confidence that comes from learning new skills.
The Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland, His Majesty the King's personal representative in the County, visited the event and spoke to the young people and adult volunteers, along with having a go at Archery herself. Dr Caroline Pryer also cut the birthday cake and joined in with the celebrations.
Neil Robinson, Lead Volunteer for Blyth Valley Scouts said “It was such a fantastic day in the sunshine and it was clear our young people had a fantastic time from the smiles on their faces. It was great to bring all the different groups together. None of it would have been possible without our amazing adult volunteers who give their time freely, but have a huge amount of fun along the way too. At a time when communities are becoming more divided, Scouts brings people together.”
