General comments
The relational database developed for Nicole Martin was developed according to the guidelines for internal assessment in the guide.
The work is of a very high quality and demonstrates examples of exemplary practice by the student.
The overall word count for the work was approximately 1,550 words.
Criterion A: Planning
A suitable scenario has been investigated with a client clearly identified. There is evidence of consultation with the client, both in this criterion and also in criterion B.
The justification for the proposed solution is weak, which prevents the work from achieving full marks for this criterion. Best-fit is applied in this case.
The success criteria stated are realistic and can be easily evaluated in criterion E.
Criterion B: Solution overview
The Record of tasks form is detailed and complete, providing clear evidence of consultation with the client that supports the evidence in criterion A.
The designs are at a range of levels, are extremely detailed and comprehensive, providing a clear indication of how the product was developed. They also make it easy for the moderator to see how the product could be further developed (extensibility, criterion D).
The range of tests used is appropriate for the product.
The layout of this information is exemplary.
Some extended writing is located within the tables.
Criterion C: Development
The product has been developed to an appropriate level of complexity, and ingenuity has been used to develop customized user interfaces.
The use of screenshots is exemplary and the juxtaposition of design views and screen views clearly indicates the relationship between the technical skills in developing the product and its structure. It also has an intuitive and aesthetically pleasing user interface.
The word count for this criterion is approximately 700. This has been determined by the use of all extended text, either written in paragraphs or within tables, where it explains the selection or operation of a particular technique.
The following are not included in the word count:
titles and subtitles
labels for screenshots
text within screenshots
bullet points and text within tables (unless they include descriptions or explanations—this text, which is included in the word count, has been highlighted in green for illustrative purposes only)
citations
code.
Teachers and moderators will be expected to use their professional judgment in determining what is included in the word count and will not be required to examine each piece of text.
Criterion D: Functionality and extensibility of product
The product functions as intended as evidenced from both the video, which gives a very detailed account of the structure of the product, as well as using the product on the CD-ROM (which is not required, but does allow the moderator to gain a greater insight into the product).
The level of detail in the product designs in criterion B and the information relating to the development of the product in criterion C provide clear evidence that the product could easily be extended by a third party.
Criterion E: Evaluation
Direct references are made to the success criteria that were stated in criterion A.
The additional feedback provided by Nicole in the appendix supports the evidence of feedback in this criterion.
There are recommendations for improvement.
