The Active Transportation+ Data Working Group has adopted a new strategic plan.
The Active Transportation and Data Working Group (AT+ DWG) is dedicated to advancing sustainable, safe, and equitable mobility. We do so by leveraging collaborative expertise and active transportation and micromobility data to create insights toward a better transportation system for all. Our mission is to foster innovation, support inclusive active transportation solutions, and empower domestic and international communities through strategic data analysis and advocacy. In the context of the AT+DWG committee, active transportation includes walking, jogging, cycling, skateboarding, rollerblading, roller-skating, scootering, using a wheelchair, and more.
Share Research Findings: With support from a broad team of collaborators, share research needs and associated funding, including liaisons with community practitioners, research leaders, and others.
Solicit, Develop, and Share Research Needs: Develop research needs statements or other research documents to share with other organizations and research teams. Provide research needs and seek funding for research to funding opportunities.
Enhance Data Collection and Analysis: Develop robust data standards and methodologies to collect, analyze, innovate, and share active transportation data for informed decision-making that is accurate and can be used across disciplines. Data include volume, safety, behavioral, and other datasets relevant to AT+DWG goals.
Advocate for Data-Driven Policy Change: Utilize data-driven evidence to inform and advocate for local, regional, and national policies that support collecting active transportation data.
Support Equity and Inclusion: Address barriers to active transportation access for underserved communities and ensure that data and policy recommendations reflect diverse perspectives.
Promote Active Transportation and Micromobility: Encourage walking, cycling, and other forms of active mobility by supporting infrastructure improvements, policy development, public engagement, accessibility, scalability, and integration of AT data for all.
Monitor and Evaluate Progress: Establish benchmarks and performance indicators to track the implementation and impact of active transportation initiatives and data projects.
Foster Collaboration: Build partnerships with governmental agencies, community organizations, academic institutions, and private sector stakeholders to advance shared active transportation objectives.
Educate and Engage: Provide educational resources and outreach programs to increase public awareness of the benefits of active transportation and the importance of data in shaping mobility solutions.
