A Bible Timeline Chart Offers A Graphical Mode To Convey Bible Events And Realities
In our Sunday Bible study some years ago, somebody, who had been a Christian and been involved in the local Church for many years, said,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they were not referring to the pre-Moses law) I wonder just how many Christians would actually notice the inaccuracy in this claim. Moses existed five hundred years after Abraham and so it is an impossibility. I have since put together a Bible chronological chart and shown visually the time period of men and women and occasions.
Years ago, I was preaching on the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and a retired pastor and powerful preacher of the Gospel, who had been a minister for forty years, came to me and reproved me vigorously over some fascinating points I made and he referred to 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I quietly asked him if I was saying anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he answered"No". I continued to describe that in the case of that particular Scripture, it was not referring to exploring the Bible but to the false teaching and school of thought of the Gnostics, but he wouldn't accept it. So, how can a forty year preacher & worker in the Gospel, not know and understand about something that possibly half the books of the New Testament refer to?
How can he understand and teach the Bible clearly without being aware of something that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to understand these things and be in a position to interpret their Bible effectively, if they are not informed?
Let's us as instructors and preachers sew together the fragments of God's Word and God's plan into a complete picture that our people can draw on for the remainder of their lives, to help them to understand God, His Eternal Plan, the role of the Church and how to better translate the Bible to model our lives by.
It is not difficult to do, and it's not boring if we are prepared to put in a bit of study with prayer and fervor, and just perhaps you can make use of a Bible Timeline too.
