A Bible Timeline Chart Presents A Graphical Mode To Help Teach Bible Events And Facts
Unfortunately, a many preachers and teachers in our churches go on and preach flimsy, superficial, shallow, light weight messages and their members scarcely grow in biblical knowledge and understanding. Preachers love to give us'moral essays' and'warming affirmations' because supposedly, if we really love our people this is what we'll do. Regrettable it seems, if God's people are falling through the cracks'for an absence of knowledge' as long as we're nice and loving to all. In reality, the more like this world, the less relevant we're to this world.
Years ago, I was preaching on the resurrection, death, life and burial of Jesus Christ, and a retired minister and powerful preacher of the Gospel, who had been a minister for 40 years, came to me and reproved me smartly over some fascinating points I made and he noted 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I humbly asked him if I was saying anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he replied"No". I continued on to explain that in the case of that particular Scripture, it wasn't referring to examining the Bible but to the false teaching and philosophy of Gnosticism, but he would not have it. Let me ask, how can a 40 year preacher & worker in the Gospel, not understand and know about something that probably 1/2 the books of the New Testament refer to?
How could he understand and teach the Bible fully without being aware of something that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to understand these things and be able to understand their Bible effectively, if they're not informed?
Let's us as instructors and preachers stitch together the fragments of God's Word and God's plan into a logical whole that our people are able to draw on for the rest of their lives, to help them to understand God, His Eternal Plan, the function of the Church and how to better translate the Bible to live by.
It is not difficult to do, and it is not boring if we're prepared to put in a bit of study with prayer and fervor, and just maybe you can use a Bible Timeline also.
