A Biblical Timeline Chart Presents A Creative Representation To Help Teach Biblical Events And Realities
In our Bible group years ago, somebody, who had been a Christian and laboured in the Church for years, asserted that,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they were not talking about the pre-mosaic law) I wonder how many Christians will really notice the inaccuracy in this assertion. Moses came about five hundred years after Abraham and so it is impossible. I have since then made up a Bible chronological banner and shown visually the time period of people and occasions.
Some years ago, I was teaching on the life, resurrection, death and burial of Jesus, and a retired pastor and strong preacher of the Gospel, who had been in the ministry for forty years, came up and reproved me vigorously over some fascinating points I made and he said 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I quietly asked him if I had been preaching anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he replied"No". I continued on to describe that in the case of that particular verse, it wasn't referring to examining the Bible but to the false teachings and philosophy of the Gnostics, but he wouldn't have it. So, how can a forty year preacher & worker in the Gospel, not know and understand about a thing that probably half the books of the New Testament relate to?
How can he study and teach the Bible fully without being aware of a thing that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to figure out these things and be in a position to understand their Bible effectively, if they're not told?
Let's us as teachers and preachers stitch together the fragments of the Bible and God's plan into a complete picture that our people are able to draw on for the remainder of life, to help them to figure out God, His Eternal Plan, the function of the Church and how to better translate the Bible to order our lives by.
It's not difficult to do, and it's not boring if we are ready to put in a bit of study and prayer and fervor, and just possibly you can employ a Bible Timeline also.
