A Bible Timeline Chart Gives A Creative Way To Convey Bible Events And Principles
In our weekly Bible class years ago, a lady who had been a Christian and laboured in the Church for over 15 years, made this statement,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they were not talking about the pre-Moses law) I wonder how many Christians will actually notice the error in this assertion. Moses existed some 500 years after Abraham and so it is an impossibility. I have since put together a Biblical timeline chart and explained in a more graphic way the dating of people and events.
Some years ago, I was preaching on the life, death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus, and a retired pastor and powerful preacher of the Bible, who had been in the ministry for 40 years, marched up and reproved me vigorously over some fascinating points I made and he mentioned 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I humbly asked him if I had been preaching anything of a heretical nature at all, to which he replied"No". I continued to describe that in the case of that particular Scripture, it wasn't referring to exploring the Bible but to the false teaching and school of thought of Gnosticism, but he wouldn't accept it. So, how can a 40 year preacher & laborer in the Gospel, not know and understand about something that possibly half the books of the New Testament discuss?
How can he understand and teach the Bible clearly without knowing about something that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to figure out these things and be able to understand their Bible properly, if they're not informed?
Let's us as teachers and preachers sew together the fragments of God's Word and God's plan into a logical whole that our people can draw on for the remainder of their lives, to help them to figure out God, His Eternal Plan, the function of the Church and how to better interpret the Bible to model our lives by.
It is not hard to do, and it is not boring if we are prepared to put in a bit of study and prayer and fervor, and just perhaps you can make use of a Bible Timeline too.
