When you select an opening it is important to choose an opening that reflects your playing style as it will influence the type of position you get for the middle game. Of particular importance to club players are opening systems where you aim for an opening formation of pieces with a set middle game plan; often this is as simple as which pawn to start pushing. Some reputable systems are the Kings Indian Attack, Colle, London and Stonewall. With a few tweaks these systems have the benefit of being able to be used by black.
