Tough match for Beverley in 6-board competition

In the first match of the season Beverley A faced a strong and determined Hull E team. Outgraded on almost every board, the team played well and scored draws on board 2-5. Unfortunately Paul Allison and Steve Hodge proved too strong for David and I respectively:

Teams continue to do well in 4-boards matches:

Beverley C drew their first match against St Andrews B which had to rely on the handicap system to even the score:

Beverley D drew their 2nd match, against Withernsea:

Beverley Redsox beat HANA Kasparov last night, helping it climb up the table to joint second place with Beverley D.

Early on in his game Steve, with the black pieces against Genadij Uskov, managed to win a pawn and consolidate his position. Unfortunately Steve then missed a series of forks resulting in lost position.

Gerry got a solid draw with black against Ramunas Vaskevicious.

Peter converted a great kingside attack against Janina Kanaeva's black pieces into a nice win.

Oleg Dukalevs tried to secure a draw for his team by offering yours truly a draw twice, but smelling blood, after Oleg used up a lot of his time to navigate through his Petroff defence, I kept piling on the pressure and was rewarded with a mistake on move 30, resulting in the win of a knight. Oleg played on for a further 25 moves before resigning when I was about to win a second and his last piece.
