With a resounding 4.5 out of 5, Malcolm came out on top in the Minor section of the Hull Congress. With victory over Robert Stokes, who was leading the tournament after the 4th round with 4 points, in the last round, Malcolm secured first place, netting a tidy sum of £350!
In the Open section, Steve Hodge and I both scored a below par 2 points.
Tim scored 2.5 points in a tough Major section.
In the Inter section, Alec came joint 4th and claimed the first grading prize!
Here is a position from my 2nd round game versus Ali Jaunooby (graded 200):
I was running low on time and unfortunately missed the opportunity to win the game with the simple 41.Qh6+ Qh7 42.Ng6+ Kg8 43.Nxf8+ Qg7 44.Ne6+-
I played 41.Ng6+ thinking I was winning as well after 41... Kh7 42.Qxh5+ Kg7 43.Ne5+ Kf6 44.Qg5# or 41... Kg7 42.Ne5+ Kh7 43.Nxf7.
Instead I was lost after: 41... Qxg6! 42.Qxg6 Re2+......
