Information about the club

Beverley chess club has a friendly atmosphere where over the board chess is hosted. 

The address is: St Nicholas Community Centre, 148 Holme Church Lane, Beverley HU17 0PY, East Yorkshire (map)

The playing room is located upstairs on the left (junior sessions also use the room on the right).

Club nights are on Wednesday, from 19:00h onwards. 

Junior chess

Sessions run from September till May: 

• Beginners and intermediates (kids who have had training for a while but are not yet at the advanced level): 2 Wednesdays a month,  5:45-6:45pm.   

• Advanced group: 2 Fridays a month, 4-5:15pm.

The beginners sessions are suitable for complete beginners as well as those who know how to play the game but have not had any proper training yet.

The advanced sessions are for those who have had several years of training and play competitive chess.

Unfortunately the junior sessions are currently full. If you wish to put your child on the waiting list, please email douglas.vleeshhouwer@gmail.com.

2026 Handicap Blitz tournament

The annual handicap blitz tournament took place on Wednesday 3rd of June. The joint winners were Paul Kendall and Douglas Vleeshhouwer. Full standings:

• Beginners (and kids with some knowledge of the game): 2 Wednesdays a month,  5:45-6:45pm.   

• Advanced group: 2 Fridays a month, 4-5:15pm.

Session dates vary during June, July and August.
