How to import SNC birthdays
Do this at the start of every semester
- Download account information from SNC servers.
- Edit out the line breaks for full and bdate in word
- grep command: grep -E '(full</td>|>bdate)' file
- Open the file in Excel and select the column with the birthdays (Column J?).
- Right click on the birthdays and choose Format Cells.
- Under Number, give them a custom format of 00000000.
- Copy the cells into a blank word document using Paste Special and Unformatted text.
- Add a return before the first entry.
- Do a find and replace. Find text: ^p^#^# Replace text: ^&/
- Do another find and replace. Find text: ^p^#^#/^#^# Replace text: ^&/
- Do a final find and replace. Find text: ^#^#^#^# Replace text: current or target year.
- Remove the extra return you added and select all, copy.
- Change the cell format back to Text and past the edited birthdays back in.
- Remove all columns but the full name column and the birthday column
- Remove all rows with blank birthdays. One way to do this quickly is to sort by birthday. Also remove leap day birthdays if not a leap year.
- Add headings. The first column is Subject and the second one is Start Date
- Use the trash can in manage calendars to clear the SNC Birthdays calendar. Then import.
