App Description

The RS-MS1A is an application software that has been initially designed to use the DV mode functions of the ID-5100A/E series transceivers. By operating D-Star functions through your Android device, you can remotely use some of the transceiver’s DV mode functions, adding convenience to your operating experience.

Use the DV functions

You can use the DV functions listed below with your Android device and your ID-5100A.

Share pictures

Using the low speed data communication capability, you can communicate by voice and share pictures at the same time. The pictures can be either ones taken by your Android device, or ones you have stored on the device.

Text messaging

You can send and receive a text messages using the transceiver’s low speed data communication capability.

Mapping

You can see the location of repeater sites or other stations on a map by using the received position data, or the transceiver’s repeater list.

You can set the “FROM” and “TO” settings by tapping a repeater site on the map. You can automatically change the destination station in “TO” by tapping a target on the map.

Receive History

In the DV move, you can read the received station information.

You can download additional information from an Internet database, such as

QRZ.com or APRS.fi.

Call Sign list

You can edit call signs and names used in the DR function. Also, you can add a call sign and a name in the Call Sign list.

Transceiver settings

You can change some of the function settings in the transceiver.

Application settings

You can select application software settings, including units of measure (Example: position, distance, speed, and so on).

Import

You can import the repeater list or the Call Sign list.

Export

You can export the repeater list, the Call Sign list, or Receive History.

Operating environment

The RS-MS1A works with Android 4.0 or later, and has been tested with the following Android devices available in Japan.

・Samsung Galaxy S3 Progre (au SCL21 : Android 4.0.4)

・Samsung Galaxy S3α (NTT docomo SC-03E : Android 4.1.1)

・Samsung Galaxy S4 (NTT docomo SC-04E : Android 4.2.2)

・Samsung Galaxy Note (NTT docomo SC-05D : Android 4.1.2)

・Samsung Galaxy Note3 (NTT docomo SC-01F / au SCL22 : Android 4.3)

・Google Nexus 7 (2012) (Nexus7-16G : Android 4.2.2 / Android 4.4.2)

・Google Nexus 7 (2013) (Nexus7-16G : Android 4.3 / Android 4.4.2)

Preparation

To use the RS-MS1A, first install the UT-133 Bluetooth unit in the transceiver, and then pair a Bluetooth device. Once the pairing is completed, connect the two devices through Bluetooth. See the transceiver’s instruction manual for details.

Set the transceiver to the following settings to work with the RS-MS1A.

  1. CI-V Transceive ON. (MENU > Function > CI-V)

  2. Serial Port Function : CI-V (Echo Back OFF). (MENU > Bluetooth set > Data Device Set)

Note:

  • The RS-MS1A may not work with all Android devices, even if it is one of the tested devices. This is because some of application software in your device may conflict with the RS-MS1A.

  • You will need to install additional application software for file import, image processing or picture trimming functions.

  • You may need to connect to the internet for some functions, such as the mapping. Connect your Android device to the Internet through a Wireless LAN, a 3G network or an LTE network.
