ARECC Projects & Capabilities

Electrical

We are working with the facilities manager and maintenance department to install a 60 amp 220 volt sub electric panel in the ARECC so that each of the three wall outlets has its own 20 amp circuit. A 220 volt 20 amp circuit for the power amplifier will also be included in the panel. Five fluorescent lights will be converted to 110 volts from the 277 volts they operate on now so they can operate on generator power. An automatic transfer switch will be added to the sub panel to switch the 12KW emergency generator when power fails during ARECC operation.

The generator installation will be on a concrete pad with a fuel tank sized to provide 7 days of emergency power under full load. A security fence will surround the generator, fuel tank and radio tower.

Cameras will monitor the installation and video will be directly fed to the Fairfield Township Police department where it is monitored and recorded 24 hours a day.

The ARECC is not only an amateur radio communications center, but is also an information gathering center. For example, Damage Assessment can be taken to the next level for the EMA by utilizing our services. Using specially prepared spreadsheets, we can go street by street and address by address, using SSTV photograph the structure as it appears now after the incident with a GPS coordinate paste it into the spreadsheet, visit the county auditors website copy and paste the BEFORE photo of the structure and the auditors value into the spreadsheet.

At the bottom of the spreadsheet the agency can compile the percentage of loss for each structure, the amount of damages for each structure and the total dollar amount lost with PHOTOS attached as part of their evaluation. Since a single picture is worth 1000 words - how much is 100 or more pictures worth?

We can operate everything from 160 meters through 1.2 GHz from the ARECC. Having this flexibility allows us to do things that before were unheard of in the amateur radio world. We strive to keep up with emerging technologies and modes of operation always looking for better ways to expand our emergency communications capabilities.
