Q: When does the show season start/end?
A: The BHSA show season begins on Dec 1 and ends Nov 30.
Q: When will my points begin to count?
A: In order for points to count, the animal, the rider AND the owner must all be current BHSA members. Your points will begin counting from the date BHSA receives your membership application and payment. You can join by mail, online, or by turning in your paperwork to the show secretary at any BHSA sanctioned horse show. If turned in at a show, your points WILL count for that show day. Otherwise, be sure to join/renew BEFORE you show for points to count. Horses/ponies are joined once and their membership is good for life. Owners/riders/farms/individuals must renew yearly.
Q: Where can I find my membership cards?
A: Go to the Points page, then go to the “Members” tab. Find your name and click the “e-cards” link next to it. Your name will not show up if you are not a current member.
Q: Why haven’t the points from the show I attended been posted yet?
A: Show managers have 2 weeks from the date of their show to submit the results to BHSA. Additionally, shows must be entered into the points program in chronological order to ensure no new memberships are overlooked.
Q: How is the Board of Directors elected?
A: Annual elections are held at the BHSA annual meeting, usually held in November. Senior members in attendance may nominate/vote.
Q: What does my “Top 10” shows refer to?
A: Year end points will only include each member’s top ten shows plus any points accrued at the BHSA Classic Show and BHSA Fall Finale Show. *Exception: ALL Pony Equitation, Children’s/Jr Equitation, Adult Amateur Equitation, Equitation on the Flat points will count.
Q: How can I provide feedback on a BHSA horse show or report issues?
A: Fill out the Horse Show Evaluation form or email your concerns to battlefieldhorseshowassoc@gmail.com.
Q: Where can I find records of the year-end results from previous years?
A: Under the “Points” tab, there is an “Archives” page.
Q: Am I considered a junior/child or a senior/adult?
A: For BHSA, a rider’s age is determined by his/her age as of December 1st of the current show year. A Junior is defined as a member who has not reached his/her 18th birthday as of December 1st of the current show year.
Q: Can my horse or pony be reinstated as Maiden/Green?
A: Per BHSA Rules: "A horse or pony’s Maiden/Green status is not affected if the horse has not been shown at more than four (4) competitions prior to September 1st and if it was not shown at that height after September 1st in the same year. (Provided) in order to maintain Green status for the next competition year the horse must be withdrawn from competition over regulation height and the owner must notify the BHSA by letter, via certified/return receipt mail prior to December 1 of the year of withdrawal. The horses name and recording number must be included in the letter together with the list of shows where shown."
Q: Is there a BHSA Finals and how do I qualify?
A: There is no BHSA "Finals". BHSA hosts a Classic show (Aug.) and a Fall Finale show (Oct.) each year. You do not have to qualify for either of these shows. The Classic is held at Rose Mount Farm and counts for double points and in addition to your Top 10 Shows. The Fall Finale show is held at Hazelwild Farm and also counts in addition to your Top 10 Shows, but is not double points.
Q: How many entries are needed to fill my division?
A: BHSA requires three (3) entries to fill a class, with the exception of: Leadline, Pre-Short Stirrup, Short Stirrup Equitation, Long Stirrup Equitation, Student Equitation, and Working Hunter, and all Jumper divisions, all of which must have at least 2 eligible entries for BHSA points to count.
