Updates & Announcements

We had a great time at our Proper Turnout & Braiding Demo on April 2nd where we learned all about proper show ring turnout for the Hunter, Equitation and Jumper show rings. We also got to watch a live braiding demo and learn some useful tips and tricks.

Thank you to everyone who attended and to EKG Stables for hosting.

Thank you to our fabulous models who helped display some snazzy show attire.

And thank you to the Virginia Horse Industry Board for supporting this event.

Keep your eyes out for info on the next Educational Event!

Attention BHSA Members:

BHSA has updated its Rules concerning the allowable combinations of Hunter divisions.

Effective July 1, 2021, the Working Hunter division can only be combined with the TB Hunter division and the Green Hunter division if it is not combined with the Green Pony Hunter division and must jump its proper height of at least 2'9". It can no longer be combined with the Schooling Hunter division. The Schooling Hunter division can only be combined with the Low Hunter division and must jump its proper height.

VHSA has been very explicit in its directive and we do not wish to jeopardize any exhibitor’s standings with VHSA or BHSA.

VHSA Rules state: “The Working Hunter Division can only be combined with the Green Hunter Horse Division and the Thoroughbred Hunter Division. It cannot be combined with any other Division, including non-VHSA Divisions.”

BHSA will continue to only award Working Hunter points to exhibitors jumping at least 2’9” or higher.

NEW FOR 2022:

  • Effective 12/1/2021, the BHSA Board of Directors would like to announce the cessation of the Forrest Linton Horse & Pony Classics as year-end divisions. These special classes will continue to be held annually in memory of BHSA founding member Forrest T. Linton at the BHSA Classic Horse Show. The perpetual trophies awarded previously at the year-end Awards Banquet for these classes will henceforth be awarded to the winners of the Forrest Linton Horse & Pony Classics at the BHSA Classic Horse Show.

  • Effective 12/1/2021, no BHSA sanctioned horse show may have a pre-entry only requirement. This is in accordance with VHSA Section 3, Rule 28 Paragraph 3G.

  • Effective 12/1/2021, horses may cross enter into another Pleasure division at the same show.

**The Oakland Heights horse show scheduled for May 27th has been cancelled.
