Library Guidelines
The Bishop Anstey High School East and Trinity College East School Library have over 10,000 books, over 15 current magazines and 2 newspaper subscriptions, and online subscription resources, including numerous research databases. Librarians are available to assist students with information needs, advice for avoiding plagiarism, basic software use, as well as providing support for self-selected reading.
1. Hours of Operation:
Lower School: Mon - Thurs 7.00 am to 4.00 pm, Fri 7.00 am to 3.30 pm
Morning Before Classes Starts: No pass needed.
During Classes: must have a pass from a Teacher.
After School: No pass needed
Sixth Form: Mon - Fri 7.00 am to 4.00 pm
No pass needed
8. Lost and Damaged Books:
Lost or damaged books must be paid for before the next check out.
If the book is found payment will be reimbursed.
Debts remaining at the end of the school year may be turned into the office and become a part of the student’s permanent file.
Any items checked out at the time a student withdraws from school must be returned and paid for upon withdrawal.
2. Student Conduct:
Patrons of the library media center must follow the established rules of acceptable behavior listed here Rules and Regulations. Failure to comply will result in the following consequences:
Verbal warning from a member of staff.
After verbal, Students will be asked to change seating from other classmates.
The student will be asked to return to class and
If severe, the student will be asked to return immediately to class or be sent to the office. The teacher will be notified.
Further action can be taken to have the student debarred from using the library for the school term.
9. Board or Card Games Usage:
We have a wide variety of educational, recreational, and Strategy games.
Library use only by students.
Teachers who wish to supervise the playing of games during the lunch period will be accommodated in a stipulated area.
3. Usage of Library:
Students do not need a pass during lunch
The types of areas within the Libraries:
Open: for games or makerspace
Quiet: seating closes to the circulation desk
Study: individual cubicles for private study.
Multipurpose: for classes or group work.
Computer bay: for accessing information and preparing school related work
10. Computer Usage:
Permission must be granted before using the computer.
Students are required to sign up to use the computers at the Circulation desk (applies only to the lower school library).
You will be allowed to access your email only for Academic purposes, however, you must inform L.M.C staff in advance.
No more than two persons per computer.
Students are NOT allowed on Chat sites, Games, etc.
No Eating, chewing of Gum, or Drinking at the computers.
NO: Transferring of data, Listening/viewing of music or videos.
Computers should be used for research purposes only.
Each user is allotted 30 mins per session at lunchtime.
4. Detection System:
If you are leaving, and the detection system goes off, please return to the circulation desk and allow us to assess the situation. Chances are, we didn't properly desensitize your book or there's an item in your posession that needs to be desensitized.
The removal of any material from the library must be properly authorized and recorded.
All materials are protected by magnetic security devices.
Users leaving the Library may be asked at the exit to show books, periodicals, etc. in their possession and may be required to open for inspection for any receptacle carried out of the library.
N.B. Unauthorized removal of any material will constitute a serious offense.
11. Library Passes:
A student must have a pass to be admitted to the library during classes.
The pass should be stamped by the time-clock on arrival and departure and placed in the "pass box" during the time the student is in the library.
Each student must check-in at the circulation desk when they enter the library.
No more than five students from any one class will be accommodated; more than five students must be accompanied by a teacher.
Teachers are asked to indicate if the students would need to use computers.
We ask that B.A.H.S.E teachers do not refer students during the T.C.E lunch period and vice versa.
5. Circulation of Items:
Items are checked out at the circulation desk.
Renewals are limited to two.
Reference materials are to be used in the library.
Copying of Periodical can be made at the Business Centre.
Only current issues are displayed. Back issues must be requested at the circulation desk.
12. Student Identification Card:
The student ID is also your library card and must be presented at the circulation desk in order to process loans.
The cardholder is held responsible for items borrowed with his/her card.
Use of this library card acknowledges the right of the library to impose penalties and/or sanctions for misuse of the card, abuse of BATCE Library property, failure to return library items on time, or loss of library items.
Students are not permitted to borrow materials on his/her card for other students.
The replacement cost for a lost identification card is $50.00. Payments are to be made at the Business Centre and receipt presented to library staff for processing.

Lower Library up to 3 items
Sixth Form Library up to 4 items
Periodicals:
New Issues- library use
Back Issues-1 week
Audio-Visual Materials:
Overnight or Weekend loans
Non-curriculum items only
Please Note the Following:
These items must be returned to the library to renew checkout.
The library staff reserves the right to further limit circulation.
Students are responsible for the materials they check out.
13. Procedure for Examination Period:
After the official last day of classes, students are expected to remain at home unless:
Their presence is requested by a teacher; the teacher will be responsible for forwarding the names of these students to the Administration at least two days in advance so that it is put on an approved list for security. Security would only admit students whose names appear on this list.
Students who have an exam must have in their possession their slip which should be spot-checked by security if required; Security and Faculty should be on the alert for unauthorized students.
Students must ALWAYS be dressed in full and correct school uniform once coming on the compound, deviations of such should not be entertained.
Students MUST adhere to the normal break and lunch interval times in gaining access to the cafeteria. Access outside the approved break times would not be allowed unless sanctioned by the administration.
Classrooms/ labs will be identified for students who have to be on the compound awaiting the start of exams or between AM and PM examinations – the cafeteria and Library are NOT to be used as a study area/holding bay unless a teacher is present. The back of the school/ courts/ football field is out of bounds.
Unless their presence is requested by a teacher, students are to leave the compound after the completion of their exams for the day - Security is asked to check slips and verify dates before allowing students to leave. All students MUST exit their respective examinations through the front glass door (instructions on exit will be given for smaller exams held in different locations).
Students with AM and PM examinations on the same day must remain on the compound in the assigned classrooms.
7. Overdue Fines:
Students will be fine $1.00 every day the item is late.
The maximum fine for very late returns of library materials will be at the discretion of the Librarian.
Borrowing rights may be suspended if patrons are delinquent in returning borrowed materials and when fines are unpaid.
Overdue slips and fine notices will be printed and distributed.
No new loans will be permitted until overdue materials are returned.
