Ms. Nicholls is a graduate of Bishop Anstey High School (BAHS), having attended that stellar institution from 1963-1970. She left this institution in 1973 to read for an undergraduate degree in History/Sociology at the University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine. On graduating from UWI, she was posted as Teacher II at Barataria Senior Comprehensive School in 1977 where Margaret taught History and Sociology for two years.
Her love affair with school libraries began in 1979 when the government advertised the position of School Librarian to fill vacant posts in secondary schools. Ms. Nicholls applied and secured a position at the same school where she was teaching. She managed the library at Barataria Senior Comprehensive School for seven years until she was granted a government scholarship to read for a post-graduate diploma in Library Science at UWI Mona, Jamaica in 1986.
On her return to Trinidad and Tobago, she was placed at the Queens Royal College (QRC) in 1988 where she served for 13 years. In 2000 she applied for early retirement from the government service to take up the post of Library Manager at Bishop Anstey High School and Trinity College East (BATCE). It was under her stewardship that the library was developed and grew. During her tenure as Manager, she mentored and trained younger members of the library staff, and ensured that they received the requisite training in Librarianship. She is noted for introducing to the BATCE library a vast collection of resources for Teachers, a MakerSpace collection and facility, as well as she played a vital role in facilitating the growth and development of the Sixth Form Library.
