The Book of Vairavi
Thank you for your interest in this project!
The purpose of this page is to provide detailed information to the scribal artisans working on pieces for the Book of Vairavi.
When I received my Sovereign's Order of Excellence from Konrad, it came in the form of this beautiful covered scroll in the style of South Asian palm-leaf manuscripts created by my friend Kananbala. As I held it and flipped through the pages I immediately started thinking about how wonderful it would be to compile all of my awards in this "book". While I have received many beautiful scrolls over the years, the idea of having all of them in one place never left me, and it finally felt appropriate to really push to make this happen in time for my 30th SCA Anniversary.
The plan is for each award to appear chronologically, starting with my Award of Arms in 1998 and ending with my Order of the Laurel in 2010.

Inspirations
Palm-leaf manuscripts at Wikipedia is an excellent overview.
The Cleveland Museum of Art has several stunning manuscripts in its collection, and they are lovingly digitized:
Two Folios from a Jain Manuscript: Great Poem about Twos (Dvyashraya Mahakavya) of Hemachandra with commentary by Abhayatilaka
Seven Leaves from a Manuscript of the Gandavyuha-sutra (Scripture of the Supreme Array)
Manuscript of the Five Protections (Pancharaksha)
Format & Materials
The dimensions of each page should be 12 inches wide by 2 inches high. The two holes for the yarn to pass through are 4 inches apart and vertically centered.
Standard Bristol/watercolor paper is preferred.
