Class session 1 (11 to 12):
Everything But the Words! Movement, Props, Aides, and Body Language in Performance - Siobhán an Einigh of Connacht, Honored Filidh (they/them)
In this class, we will explore the aspects of performance beyond the spoken/sung word. We will delve into the art of movement, effective use of props, and the integration of physical aides into compelling performances. Participants will learn how to convey emotion and intention through body language, enhancing their overall presence on stage. Whether you're a seasoned performer or just starting out, this class will elevate your ability to communicate through the body, making every movement count.
ROOM LOCATION: Sanctuary
Class size 10-15, ages 18+
Improv Games - Master John Inchingham (he/him)
Master John Inchingham the Fool introduces newcomers to the wonders of improvisation and provides veteran performers with a chance to test their abilities. Improvisation is taught both as an art-form in and of itself and as a means of creating ideas for the aspiring bard (and for the seasoned tunesmith with writer’s block). The class is fun and informal. Come prepared to move and to make a fool of yourself!
ROOM LOCATION: Music Room
The practice of practice: how being mindful of what, when, and how you practice can improve (insert discipline here!) - Sir Jocelyn le Jongleur (she/her)
This class breaks down the subject of practice into the component parts of learning new skills and polishing and improving already acquired skills or repertoire.
It covers both the science of practice—what has been found to be effective, and the art of practice—knowing what to do when in order to keep yourself motivated to continue and move forward. Hopefully there will be enough time for a volunteer share session of practice strategies people have personally found useful in their own journey.
ROOM LOCATION: Arlund Room
How to Learn and Practice a Song - Lady Annalena Cecilia Massari
This class will cover how to approach a song for successful learning and practice in preparation for a performance, based on observation and experience from over twenty years as a singer and voice teacher.
ROOM LOCATION: Library
Class session 2 (2:30 to 3:30):
Beginning Harp - Sir Jocelyn le Jongleur (she/her)
This is a class for people who have no prior knowledge of playing the harp up to people who have about a year of intermittent playing under their belt. I will gauge the level of the group that shows up and teach accordingly.
I have four harps which i am willing to loan out (or share, depending on the number of attendees.) If you have a harp, music stand, and pencil, please bring them. If not, we will make it work. Also—please bring your harp already tuned so we can begin on time and sound good playing together!
ROOM LOCATION: Music Room
Class Size Limit: 12
Norman Haiku - A non-medieval poetry form - The (Wrong and) Honorable Master Dahrien Cordell (he/him)
Long ago, Master Gerald of Ipsley told me that someone in the West taught him about this uproariously silly and fun form that really has little to do with any medieval poetic endeavors I've ever heard of. This class has even been taught at Pennsic University and the Known World Cooks Collegium And Bardic Symposium, which should lend it absolutely no additional credibility. So hide your rank, wear a mask, don't tell the Laurels, then laugh when they sit beside you! We *will* be creating our own in class, so come prepared to participate. (Battery not included.)
ROOM LOCATION: Arlund Room
Meet the Onion Flute (and the Kazoo Zoo)! - THL Hilla Stormbringer (she/they)
It's not (just) for shenanigans! Have you ever heard of the onion flute? This lovely lesser-known instrument is the medieval equivalent of the kazoo. This class serves as an introduction to the onion flute, how it works, and how it is played, and different playing techniques. It will also demonstrate how to use the same techniques to play the modern kazoo, and show how size and shape and material and construction affect the sound of the instrument. Come and have some (serious?) fun as we explore together!
Please feel free to bring your own kazoos or onion flutes. There is no class size limit. A dozen kazoos will be available to provide to those who have none.

Irish Myth - Master Brendan O'Corraidhe (he/him)
A lot happened in Ireland before Patrick arrived! You’ve likely heard the names: the Firbolgs, Cuchullain, Finn MacCumhail, Niall of the Nine Hostages, the Tain Bo Culagne, Maeve, the de Dannans…. But how do they all fit together? Come on a fast- paced ramble through a thousand years of pagan Irish history, myth, and legend - (they’re all intertwined!)
