Exporting Badí Events

Using the "Export" page, you can generate an iCalendar file with an ICS extension. These files can be imported into other calendar systems, including Google Calendar, iCloud, Outlook and others. For an introduction to this Extension, please see this page.

Features

The tool can export calendar events for:

  • Badí' days

  • Holy Days

  • Feast Days

  • Fasting Days

The sunset time is included, based on where your computer is located.

Tips

When exporting to use in your external calendar, you may need to experiment with the format that you like best, and works best in your calendar system. As you experiment is it best to create a new calendar to import events into.

WARNING:

Do not import them into your main calendar!

Once imported, the events cannot be deleted unless you delete them one-by-one!

Make a "Test Calendar" that you can import the files into. You can then delete the entire calendar and try again, over and over until you find a version that works well for you! Then make another new calendar and import those files into a new calendar. You can then share that calendar with others in your local community who live close enough to have the same sunrise and sunset times! You may also want to make multiple calendars, so each can be set to a different color.

In most cases it is best to export a number of different iCalendar files, one for each type of event you want to export. Then you can import them all into the same calendar. When done like this, each type of event can have a different 'alert' added to it. For example, you may want an alert 5 minutes before sunrise and 5 minutes after sunset on Fast days. To do this, export to two files. One with "At sunrise only" and an alert 5 minutes before. The other export is with "At sunset only" and an alert 5 minutes after.

Here is a brief video, showing how to export some events, create a "Test" calendar, and import the iCalendar file into it.

Example 1

In this clip from Google Calendar, the event was exported as an 'All-day' event from midnight. It shows at the top of the day in Google Calendar. On an Android phone, using the "Sunrise" calendar app, the same all-day event can be shown in the notification panel:

Example 2

In this clip, also from Google Calendar, you can still see the 'All-day' event at the top of the day. The next two events are events for the start of the Fast on that day and for the end of the Fast on that day. They were created by making this selection in the Badí' Extension:

Example 3

In this clip, the Fast was exported as a single event from sunrise to sunset with this selection:

Example 4

The From sunset to sunset option would be best and most accurate for Badí' days.

However, be sure to try it in your Test calendar as it may not work very well!

Below you see Badí' days exported in both formats:

Shown in Google calendar:

The top (grey-coloured) events were exported as 'All-day event from midnight', while the bottom (red-coloured) events are the "From sunset to sunset" events. When the event is a few minutes longer than 24 hours (when days are getting longer) some calendar systems (e.g. Google Calendar) will show the days as overlapping two-day long events! And when the day is shorter than 24 hours, it will show as a single event at the starting time.
