I am an engineer by training with a big appetite for learning about science and technology, art, culture and basically anything that stimulates my curiosity. It is said "curiosity is the foundation of innovation (Bob Iger, Walt Disney Corp.). " Innovation does not need to be big. It just need to affect the life of people in a positive way.
Nearly 20 years of travel adventures with my husband, awoken my curiosity about a "Lost Childhood Interest". That is happened to be Mid Century Modern (MCM) Design, as I learned what it is all about many decades passed my childhood. I remember my mom used to buy these interior design books of 60-70s so she can come up for ideas to decorate our house. I was amazed by pictures and would spend hours and hours to browse through. Back then, I had no idea I am looking at Frank Lloyd house designs or likewise. I am sure my mom did not have any idea about the designer either! But for sure, she had the taste for it.
Mid Century Modern architecture, art, and culture had its pick roughly during 1935-1965s. Today, those simple lines that define an object or a building, are known to be timeless (! ) and have many fans.
So in my site, you will find me talking mainly about MCM design in Michigan (and to some extent what I have come across in other places).
There is no shortage of legendary MCM Designs in Michigan (e.g., Cranbrook, Knoll, Herman Miller, Frank Lloyd Wright, Alden Dow, Eero Saarinen, and some other less known architects). Also make sure you will check the mid century technology for cars (Ford, GM, Chrysler, and others), plus my favorite mid century entertainment Jetsons, and Mad Man in entertainment.
By the way I will not forget to talk about other interesting topics which stimulates my curiosity such as technology, art, food, entertainment, etc. After all, they all make DATE!
I initiated this site during Christmas of 2019. My motivation was a self reflection which prompt me promoting Michigan and Detroit while doing something which I am really passionate about.
