As I mentioned on early pages of this site, I am a huge fan of Mid Century Modern Design and Style and I am not the only one. There is a huge market for this style which has grown tremendously at turn of 21st century!!
But,
Why does mid century modern continue to be popular, and why have contemporary retailers and manufacturers embraced its clean-lined look so emphatically?
Mid century pieces are simply well-designed objects, with a timeless look. They sit very well in contemporary homes and interiors and they still feel fresh even after they are aged. They have passed the test of time.
Familiarity is also a factor in mid century's enduring popularity. Baby boomers who grew up with mid century designs are certainly part of the market for both the originals and the reproductions. For this generation, the designs are a direct connection to their youth.
Generation X have played their own role. They are drawn to urban living. Today's living spaces in major cities like NY, LA, Toronto or any major city are tight. This is similar to post WWII homes. Mid Century Modern furnitures are designed to be simple, mobile, and lightweight for city residents who move frequently.
All of the above play into what survives the test of time and what dies out when the way of living changes.
