Oct 9 trip report

The 6th Annual Palmyra Challenge was a beautiful, cloudless fall day with a good variety of birds. Total bird species seen was 95, one more than last year's total of 94. Highlights included seeing large numbers of both ruby-crowned and golden-crowned kinglets, phoebes, yellow-bellied sapsuckers, 15 species of warblers, and 5 sparrow species. Other fall migrants included Scarlet tanagers, Rose-breasted grosbeaks, and blue-headed vireos. Returning winter birds included purple finch, white-crowned and white-throated sparrows, and dark-eyed juncos. In addition due to the warm sunny skies, 20 species of butterflies were also noted.

Thanks to those who joined us in the field as well as to those who pledged money in support of the club. Thanks also go to Lloyd Shaw and his group whose sightings are included here as well. Please join us next year!
