Distinguished Service Award
Purpose: Established in 2010, this occasional award is intended to recognize ASEEES member librarians, archivists or curators whose contributions to the field of Slavic, East European and Eurasian studies librarianship have been especially noteworthy or influential. The effect of these contributions may be the result of continuous or distinguished service to the profession, but may also be the result of extraordinarily active, innovative or collaborative work that deserves national recognition.
Eligibility: Any ASEEES member who holds, or has recently held an appointment as a library professional, archivist or curator at a public, academic or national library, archive or museum, etc. is eligible for nomination. The recipient will be recognized at the ASEEES Awards event at the annual national convention.
Nomination Guidelines:
The award shall be limited to one recipient annually and only if the CLIR Executive Council finds that there is clear need for the award,
Nominations for the award should come from peers in the field; and the CLIR Executive Council may solicit nominations from groups or individuals in the field.
Members of the CLIR Executive Council may submit nominations, but they should consider recusing themselves from voting.
The CLIR Executive Council will not disclose the identity of those who nominate individuals for the award to those whom they have nominated, though nominators may disclose this information if they wish.
To nominate an individual for this award, please fill out the Distinguished Service Nomination Form (attached below) and submit via email to the CLIR Chair.
Selection criteria:
Active participation in special projects, efforts or initiatives that have measurably impacted the profession.
Exemplary and influential research and/or scholarship pertaining to SEEES librarianship
Consistently superior ASEEES committee or subcommittee work and /or advocacy
Exemplary leadership on ASEEES committees, subcommittees or in other initiatives
Conceiving of and implementing innovative or creative ideas that benefit the profession
Quietly but enduringly and effectively promoting and strengthening the profession
Timeline:
Nominations may come at any time during the year, but will be solicited annually by the CLIR Chair by March 1.
Nominations are due by May 1 to be considered for the current year. Nominations received after May 1 will be considered the following year. Nominator(s) will be notified upon receipt of the nomination.
Incomplete nominations will not be considered. The CLIR Executive Committee will determine whether a nomination includes enough information to be considered complete.
The CLIR Executive Committee will conclude their deliberations by May 31.
Award recipients will be personally notified of the award by June 1.
Awards will be announced over Slavlibs by July 1 and will be reported in the National Convention program and in the ASEEES NewsNet.
The current CLIR Chair will present the award(s) during the Awards Ceremony at the ASEEES National Convention.
Selection Committee: From 2010-2013 the Distinguished Service Award Selection Subcommittee managed the selection of candidates for the award. In 2013 CLIR made the decision to incorporate the subcommittee into the work of the CLIR Executive Committee. From 2014 the award will be managed by the CLIR Executive Committee.
