Computer Forensic Animation of 3D Vehicle Collisions

Project description and objectives:

3D computer forensic animation is an important media with a strong potential to help to accurately visualize and reconstruct vehicle accident scenes. Based upon factual data (real photos from the police), forensic animations can reproduce the 3D collision scene and demonstrate it from different points of view in time. Detailed models and materials of the vehicles involved in a collision, their motion, the physical characteristics of the environment in which the accident happened, and witnesses' reports come together in an interactive 3D environment, creating a clearer understanding of the accident sequence. The project aims at developing and integrated an interactive framework using Physics Engines (Bullet, BGE, Cry Engine, etc.) to aid forensic investigators in case analysis of vehicle accidents as well as in the courtroom presentation tasks.
