Aug. 7: Slept like a rock (in the lager --- attic with 30 cots side by side)
Wangalm Hüt > summited Gehrenspitze (2357m; 7,732 ft) in 90 minutes (2000 ft elev gain).
Descend back to Hut; pick up full pack; descend back to car.
Drove through Innsbruck to Ranalt, in the Stubai Alps, on the Austrian/Italian border.
6 miles; 5,700 ft elev +/-
Aug. 6: Begin in Klamm, Austria (30 minute drive from Inzing). (Elev 1250m; 4100 ft)
Ascend to Wangalm Hut (1753m; 5,751 ft); drop main pack for nights lodging (23 Euro, inc. breadfast)
Met long-time local hiker/climber (retired police officer) and spent the day hiking his favorite loop.
Route: Sudward-steig > 2000m pass > Rotmoss Alm > Steinernes Hut (1925 m) > TillfulsAlm > Gaistal Alm (1300m valley floor) > Hammermoos Alm > back up to Wangalm Hut (1753m). LONG day.
16 miles; 8000 feet elev +/- ; 9 hours on the trail.
Aug. 5: Begin at RossHütte parking lot in Seefeld, Austria (1230m; 4035 ft)
Ascend to Ross Hütte > Seefelder Joch > Seefelder Spitze (2221m; 7,287 ft) > loop over and up to the
summit of Reither Spitze (2373m; 7,785 ft)
Descend to Nordlinger Hut (lunch) and loop back via Reitherjoch Alm
10-mile loop; 4,300' elev. +/-
Aug. 4: Established base lodging about 20 minutes east of Innsbruck in a tiny village called Inzing, Austria. Lodging at Gasthof Stollhofer B&B (46Euro). Primary hikes/climbs in nearby Seefeld and Leutasch.
