Aug. 13: Parked car in Scüol (10 minutes drive from Ramosch). Goal: hike across the Swiss National Park
Took bus 913 up a windy canyon to S-Charl and the Val Minger trail head (1794m; 5886 ft) for one of the many scenic treks through the Swiss National Park. Ascended above Sur il Foss (pass) to (2340m; 7680 ft) after criss-crossing at least 6 flash flooded river crossings.
Raining steadily and we saw no other hikers the entire day. Upon descending down to Alp Plavna (2081m; 6830 ft) towards the village of Tarasp (1406m; 4615 ft) we encountered 8 more flash flood trail crossings and were within about 5 to 10 minutes of getting pinched into a scenario where we would not have been able to make progress in either direction. One could bivy in the thick woods, but that would not have been particularly pleasant.
Definitely an epic day, memorable.
