Aug. 17: Darren's first epic Alps biking experience!!!
Begin at the Signal Lift (St Moritz Bad) which accommodates bikers and hikers.
8 1/2 hours of solid riding, primarily in the Corviglia and Piz Nair region.
As per Garmin GPS: 18,910 total feet of descent over 39 miles, often beginning at top of Piz Nair lift: (3057m; 10,030 ft). Tagged behind best riders as he gained confidence with route familiarity.
I hiked the opposite direction (ascending) to meet and take pics / video. Met for lunch at Piz Nair Hüt.
Aug. 16: Coaz Hüt Loop:
Drive 20 minutes to Corvatsch Talstation. Take Corvatsch lift to Mittlestation (2702m; 8865 ft).
Hike to Fuorcia Surlej (pass) (2755m; 9038 ft), then loop out to the Coaz Hüt (2610m; 8563 ft)
Loop back to pass and descend (by foot) back to Hahnensee Hüt and the Corvatsch Talstation (car).
16.5 miles; 6000 ft elev +/-
Aug. 15: Necessary rest-day. Arranged bike-rental (high-end mt. bike for Darren tomorrow) and checked out the local lifts and bike routes.
Aug. 14: Lodging in LaPunt, Switzerland, a small village about 10k from St Moritz, in a region called the upper Engadin(e). Chesa-Schalom B&B owned by Werner and Margarit Schrag (85 CHf for both Darren and I). They are retiring and our last day is also their last day. It's been special getting to know them.
Lift tickets are included for all lifts in the valley, saving an average of $15 per person for each ride.
Drive 15 minutes to Pontresina and Punt Moragl (Muottas-Muragl cog train) (2453m; 8047 ft)
Hike up to Lej (Lk) Muragl (2713m; 8900 ft). Actually trying to snow a little, but subsided.
Swing around the other side of the valley on the scenic Alp Languard panoramic trail.
Ascend to the Georgy Hüt (3200m; 10,500 ft) and summit Piz Languard (3262m; 10,702 ft), the highest peak in the upper Engadin.
Descend via Lej Languard to the chair lift at Alp Languard (2300m; 7545 ft) and down to Pontresina. Walk back to car.
14 miles; 9500 ft elev +/-
