Course description

This course is deigned to acquaint Medical Technology Students with basic knowledge of research methodology, date resources, collection and analysis. It also provides insights on different types of research.

This course will enable participants to identify and apply appropriate research methodologies in order to plan, conduct, and evaluate basic research. This course will, furthermore, enable participants to distinguish between scientific method and common sense knowledge, while laying the foundation for research skills at higher levels

Course objectives

  1. Understand strengths and weaknesses of different research methods and when it is and is not appropriate to use specific methods;
  2. Be able to design a research project using appropriate multiple research methods;
  3. Understand how to collect, code, and enter quantitative data into a database for use by spreadsheets, statistical packages
  4. Be able to design and conduct a survey and analyze survey results;
  5. Be able to analyze data using a computerized statistical package (SPSS);
  6. Be able to communicate information using data graphics;
  7. Be able to Microsoft Excel and Access software;
  8. Understand ethical issues in Biological and Medical Sciences research;
  9. Be able to prepare a professional written research report;
  10. Be able to give an effective oral report supported by PowerPoint.
