Our community needs your contribution to continue to bring you and your family quality water at reasonable rates.

The requirements for becoming a board member are as follows:

1. Attend a board meeting to meet the current board and see what we are all about.  We have had numerous residents indicate they are interested and then sadly, not even attend a board meeting.

2. Be a US Citizen and registered Voter.

3. Available to attend one board meeting per month.  Board Meetings are almost always scheduled for the 1st Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. and take place Online, see current agenda, or at the Chemeketa Clubhouse.

4. Be willing to help direct our contractors (Water Operator, Business Manager, Meter Reader & Board Secretary) on ongoing projects and join subcommittees if your schedule allows.

What’s in it for you?  You can have a voice and vote.  You can review and approve yearly budgets, capital improvement projects, help to secure contractors and be a part of the strategic planning and implementation of future projects.

Election Information:

NOTICE:

THERE WILL BE 1 VACANT SEAT FOR THE UPCOMING ELECTION:

Your community needs your contribution to continue to bring you and your family quality water at reasonable rates.

The Board of Directors should consist of five board members.

Our community is made up of over 120 households and approximately 200 residents. Many of these residents could be valuable assets to our volunteer board of directors.

The requirements for becoming a board member are as follows:

1. Be a US Citizen and registered Voter.

2. Available to attend one board meeting per month. Board Meetings are almost always scheduled for the 1st Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. and take place at the Chemeketa Clubhouse. During Covid-19, we are meeting via conference call/Google Meet.

We hear so many frustrations regarding current issues and we are really looking for some people to step up and make a difference.

Election Procedures and Deadlines   (timelines approximate)

Full terms for AHCWD directors are 4 years. Candidates must be registered voters living within District boundaries.  All election costs are borne by the District, the only exception being optional candidate statements printed in the election materials of a contested election. The cost of such a statement would be the responsibility of the candidate.  In an uncontested election, or in the case of appointments, candidates are not mentioned in election materials and hence there is no need for even an optional candidate statement in those cases.

By July of the year of an election the AHCWD Business Manager should have received an abbreviated candidate guide from the Registrar of Voters (ROV). Prospective candidates can receive a copy of the guide by contacting the AHCWD business office or going directly to the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters.

In July/August forms must be filed with the ROV office. There is a four-week period for filing documents, deadline to be announced nearer the time. Incumbents have an extension of 5 days for filing.

In September/October forms from candidates for uncontested elections are transmitted to the Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors will then appoint “off ballot” candidates at their meeting on the first Friday in December. Appointments are transmitted back to the ROV, who prepares the certificates of election.

Contested elections take place in November.

Whether an election is contested or uncontested, there is a charge to AHCWD for processing paperwork in varying amounts, but these costs are borne by the District, not the candidate.

Appointed Candidates

In the event of a board position falling vacant, a director can be appointed outside the normal election procedures.  Please contact the Business Office for more information.
