Service Learning

I took an English class with a service learning component in seventh grade, and it impressed upon me a lifelong commitment to working for the good of my community.  I believe that the best community service benefits the volunteer as much as the recipients, which makes service learning--in which the benefits to the student volunteers are directed toward specific curricular goals--a natural fit for my teaching.

I have not yet had the opportunity to incorporate service learning into any courses I've taught, but I look forward to this as a way to provide applied research opportunities to students in a wide range of mathematical areas.  Below are two sets of notes I prepared on service learning for a course I took on career development.
