I taught Mathematical Modeling at UW-Eau Claire in Spring 2013, and am excited to be teaching it again in Spring 2014! This course focuses on using statistics and differential equations to model situations in biology, economics, physics, and other topics. Through the seven group projects during the course of the semester, students gain experience working with data, using R and MATLAB for analyses, and communicating their results to non-mathematicians. They also complete a final project which allows them to apply what they've learned about modeling to address a question of their choice. Last year, the projects ranged from "Modeling iPhone Demand" to "Modeling Wisconsin's Wolf Population."
