Do you love the competitive yet friendly buzz that’s created by a well-run quiz evening?
Drop-in-and-play quiz evenings are great – but maybe you’re looking for something a bit more structured as well?
The Abergavenny and District Quiz League are looking for new pub-based quiz teams to join the league next season.
- We employ professional question setters who are highly skilled in devising challenges that will test, stretch – and occasionally frustrate – you.
- In a league match, there are 4 people in each team. Many teams have more than 4 people in their ‘squad’ – 6 is a typical number to provide flexibility throughout the season.
- The annual subscription of £50 per team is shared between the team members.
- Each match consists of 8 rounds, each round containing 4 pairs of questions.
- If a team answers their question correctly, they score 2 points. If they fail to answer it correctly, the questions is passed over to the other team, who can score 1 point for a correct answer.
- Once the main match is over, the teams play a ‘beer round’ of 8 pairs of questions. As the name suggests, the losers of the beer round buy the winners a drink (beer is not compulsory).
- During the beer round it’s traditional for the home team to bring out sandwiches/light snacks. Some of the pubs currently in the league provide these, but in other pubs the team members bring along a couple of trays (one for each team).
- In the league table, a win scores 2 points and a draw scores 1 point.
- At the end of the season the team with the highest number of points is the winner and is presented with the Shield, which normally sits on the home pub’s bar.
- In addition to the main league games, we run a mid-season Christmas Quiz and an End-of-season Quiz in the Spring. These are both informal, fun, and you are welcome to bring friends if they would like to join in.
