Here are some suggested resources for Computer Stuff in SW Oregon... mainly the Rogue Valley Region.
First... the Worst:
"Best Buy" has to be the absolute worst. The horror stories I have heard, especially about their service, are something you Do NOT want to experience. They are more about selling new stuff, as opposed to getting you better use out of what you have. Avoid them at all costs.
For more than what I have listed here, try:
AshMUG
This looks like a very comprehensive group, offering both a "Basic User Group" (BUG) option (more entry level), and events for more advanced topics. They offer a discussion e-mail message list, and an announcement e-mail message list.
With the direction MS Windows has been taking, especially with the release of Win-10, I am starting to suggest Apple products more, even though I do not own one yet (except for an out-of-date iPad).
Senior ACES
"Adult Computer Education Society"
This group is very well established. The name pretty well identifies the target audience. They have meeting locations in both Medford and Ashland. They support both Mac and Windows. I seem to recall on their old web they had some interest in Linux too. (I like their new use of "Google Sites".)
Grants Pass Area
A list of local groups in the Grants Pass area. They seem to cover it all.
Connecting Point
With a location in Medford... This is a great place for everything... Supporting Apple and Microsoft. They offer sales and service. Their sales staff is probably the best I have ever encountered. If you cannot buy it or get it fixed here, you probably do not want it anyway.
Located in central Ashland. Mac & PC support. The main focus seems to be support, but they offer sales too.
If you happen to have a Costco membership, you may want to look here. What you cannot find in the store, you can probably get online. This goes against my usual recommendation of not using "big-box" stores, but they offer a "Concierge Service" with many (if not all) computer products they sell. The feedback I have received on this so far is that it is pretty good.... so it could be worth consideration. (I would not run out and get a membership there, just to get one item however.)
