This list gives any names made known to us but not shown on the original 4th South Midland Brigade Battery lists nor on the Army lists of officers. A flag O by a name indicates someone for whom I may have additional information.
It was compiled for this website and is by no means complete. As work is in progress, this page may temporarally include some men listed on other pages.
Bennett, Horace Frederick. Gunner, 936, listed with 4th S. Midland How. Brigade but on his death notification as 2/2 S. Midland Artillery. Water Meter Fitter. Attested 12 April 1915 and at that time recorded fit for service. Never served overseas. Admitted to the Military Hospital Colchester, 8 Dec 1915 with suspected TB and bronchitis. Died aged 24, 1 Feb 1916, of heart failure. No explanation is given for his deterioration in health. His service record makes no mention of injuries received in an accident, Colchester, 1st February, 1916 as recorded in source Trevor Harkin, Coventry Roll of Honour.
O Mason, Edward Leopold. Service number 544, then 352. later 845255.
Attached to 4 South Mid Ammunition Column.9 March 1916. Previously with South Midland Divisional Ammunition Column. Served with 243 Brigade and August 1916 transferred to 242 Brigade.
O Mortimore, Claude Alick. Major, D.S.O. In 1911 served as Adjutant to 4th South Midland Brigade. On active service from August 1914. Subsequently No 9 and No 14 Anti-Aeroplane Sections, IV Division, and Commanding 103rd Battery, 31st Brigade France and Salonica. A personal friend of Francis and Agatha West, his letters to them remain among Frank's papers.
O Salmon, Hugh Stacey. Gunner. Service number 2807, then 836298.
Enlisted 1915 in Birmingham in 3rd South Midland (Birmingham) Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. To France March 1916 and apparently posted to 243 Brigade. October 1916 transferred from 243 Brigade (dissolved) to 240 Brigade. Killed in action "C" Bty. 240th (South Midland) Bde. Arcade on the same day as Reginald Pridmore.
Stinton, John Ashley. Gunner, later Bombardier. Service number 3041 (831036. 11th July 1915 to France with the 1st Worcester Battery 2nd South Midlands (later 241) Brigade. Transferred to 243 Brigade (B Battery) May 1916 with the D Battery of 241 Brigade. Died of wounds 1918 serving with"A" Bty. 165th Brigade.

The 1st Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers were stationed in Rugby during the autumn and winter of 1914-1915 and Frank's diary mentions that while he was training at Great Baddow in Essex, two of their officers were billeted with his wife at their home, Bawnmore.
