St John’s Church, Farsley, has installed an array of 16 solar photovoltaic panels to the south facing aspect of the main church building. An open day is being held at the Church on Saturday 17th of March 2012 from 11am until 2pm. Free hot drinks, soup and cake available. Representatives from The Phoenix Works will be available to discuss the solar photovoltaic project and answer any questions.
“We are excited about the impact this project is going to have on our community. Visitors to the church will be able to see how much power the panels are making using a display in the church” said Reverend Paul Tudge. “As the hub of many community groups and activities we want to project a green, caring image to the many parishioners visiting each week.”
The panels were installed by Farsley based, MCS accredited firm, The Phoenix Works. The Church was keen to use a local firm to maximise the carbon savings of the project. Thomas Newby, Managing Director of The Phoenix Works, said: “The combination of environmental and financial savings will really benefit the Church, reducing both the Carbon Footprint and electricity bills significantly, whilst in addition the Feed-in Tariff will provide a regular income.”
